COLOR
GILT was named in part after gold, as many of the pieces within feature gold foil as a primary element, but we chose to brand GILT with another swatch from the collection—a red-hot pink—to celebrate J.A.W. Cooper’s stunning return to vibrant, sumptuous color.

TYPESETTING
Off the cutting room floor: The bird you see in this spread was removed from the cover art to make room for the title treatment, but—like the tiniest phoenix—was reborn in this piece, on the artist’s statement spread, all typeset in Rail.

SPOT
GLOSS
The title treatment was printed with a glossy spot UV finish, subtly referencing the gleam of gold without using gold lettering.

THE CAGE
The GILT title treatment was inspired by a J.A.W. Cooper piece titled “Aviary.” Ultra-condensed letterforms form evenly spaced vertical strokes, which weave through the cover art like the bars of a cage.
